Reflux Laryngitis From Stomach Flu or Food Poisoning
Stomach flu, stomach bug, food poisoning... sometimes it's hard to tell, but we all know the signs. Diarrhea, nausea and/or vomiting, and sometimes, reflux laryngitis! Yours truly just had the experience (I'm always doing research for you:) After a 24 hour bought with something intestines decided didn't belong there, I noticed I had developed laryngitis... and hadn't been singing or speaking, other than to moan!
...inflammation of the voice box (larynx) caused by stomach acid backing up into the esophagus.Hydrochloric acid, while vital for the stomach's digestive process, can wreak havoc with the tissues of the esophagus and larynx. Best to keep them separated, and the healthy body does that just fine! But when they do get together, don't be surprised to find yourself with symptoms of what usually only occurs with upper respiratory illness: Laryngitis! Don't worry... With a little voice rest and careful diet, possibly supplemented with digestive enzymes at least for a time, your voice should be back soon! (If not, get a doc to check it out!)
